Smiles 4 Seniors

Our first Smiles 4 Seniors fundraising event!!

On June 17th we will be hosting our first official fundraising event - a BBQ! The event is by donation and with your donation comes a hamburger or hot dog of your choice. Location is the Real Canadian Superstore at 1205 Oxford Street West.

If you aren't familiar with our organisation we'd like to invite you to learn more by visiting us at the BBQ, reaching out to one of the admin/ directors and/or becoming part of our Facebook group. We strive to raise money so that multiple times each year we can buy flowers and spend a day delivering flowers, cards, hugs and smiles to the seniors in our community in facility care. We take the time to engage and speak with them, to learn and to share that human connection.

We hope to see you all come out and support this amazing event and out future events through out the year!!

*student volunteer hours are also available  😉

What started as a conversation between me and my friend, Marcia Beaton, has grown into a community wide event.

On February 14, 2016 we had our first Smiles 4 Seniors event in which we visited the residents of Mount Hope and Marian Village. We handed out about 400 carnations and the same amount of cards, who were made by people in our community. Schools, day cares, church groups and families are involved in making a difference in our community.

On Christmas Day 2016 we were able to raise enough money to hand out almost 800 carnations over 3 different facilities. We have seen the impact it makes on the residents and also on us, the people who hand out the flowers and cards. We feel that this is a project that can't be stopped and now we are proud to say that Smiles 4 Seniors has expanded to a board of 6 people. We are in the process of incorporating and filing for charity status for Smiles 4 Seniors.

Every penny raised goes directly back into our program. We are very excited about this and will keep you posted on our progress.
